Macedon Gas — Frequently Asked Questions
Home LPG / 45kg Bottles
We deliver 45kg LPG cylinders for household use, including heating, hot water and cooking. We also supply 9kg bottles for BBQs and patio heaters.
For a typical household using gas for hot water and a cooktop, a single 45kg bottle lasts roughly 2 to 3 months. Usage varies depending on the number of appliances, household size and season.
Yes. We offer three options: buy outright (you own the cylinder), rent (we retain ownership and handle compliance), or swap (exchange your empty for a full one). Ask us which option suits your setup.
Most customers use 45kg LPG for hot water systems, gas heating, cooktops and ovens. It is the standard size for homes in the Macedon Ranges, Sunbury and Melton that are not connected to mains natural gas.
Yes. Our LPG valves and connections follow Australian standards and are compatible with standard LPG regulators.
Most regulators have a gauge or indicator. You can also lift the bottle gently — a nearly empty 45kg cylinder feels significantly lighter. We recommend ordering a refill or swap when the gauge reads around 20 percent.
Many homes run a twin-bottle setup with an automatic changeover valve. When one bottle empties, the system switches to the second. This gives you time to arrange a refill without interruption.
Cylinders must be stored upright, outdoors, on a firm level surface, away from ignition sources, drains and building openings. See our Safety page for full guidance.
If your household uses a lot of gas — large home, hydronic heating, multiple appliances — you may benefit from a 210kg cylinder or bulk supply. Visit our Bulk LPG page for details.
Bulk LPG / 210kg Cylinders
A 210kg cylinder is a larger LPG vessel designed for properties with higher gas consumption. It holds roughly four times the gas of a standard 45kg bottle and is delivered and positioned by our team.
Larger homes, farms, rural properties, commercial kitchens, hospitality venues, workshops and any site where 45kg bottles would need frequent replacement.
We deliver and position the cylinder at your property. When it runs low, contact us and we arrange a swap or refill. Some customers set up scheduled deliveries for uninterrupted supply.
Generally yes. The per-kilogram cost is often lower with a 210kg cylinder, and you avoid the frequent changeovers required with smaller bottles. Contact us for a quote.
Absolutely. Many customers upgrade when their gas usage grows. We will assess your setup and advise on the best configuration. Request a bulk LPG quote.

Cylinder Safety and Compliance
All LPG, industrial and hospitality gas cylinders must be retested every 10 years as per Australian standards. The test date is stamped on the collar or neck ring.
Every cylinder supplied by Macedon Gas is inspected and verified to be within its test period and fully compliant with safety standards.
No. By law, cylinders that are out of test must not be refilled or used until retested and recertified. We can replace out-of-test cylinders with compliant ones.
